LEE MACK on putting more people to the test in The 1% Club, plus we look back on seven of the comedian's career gems

Return of the MACK

THE 1% CLUB NEW SAT, 8.30PM, ITV1 GAME SHOW

Lee Mack can't wait to take over Saturday nights again when his smash-hit show The 1% Club bursts back onto ITV1 for a fourth series this week.

'Let's be honest, the fact that I haven't accidentally given a £100,000 to the wrong person or read out the answer instead of the question is as much as a surprise to me as it is to anyone,' grins the award-winning comedian, 56. 'So I'm delighted that ITV is risking me steering this ship again!'

Each episode in the new 17-part run will again see 100 contestants trying to solve conundrums designed to test common sense and logic in a quest to make it through to the final round where they'll have the chance to answer a question only 1% of the country would get right.

'17 weeks of shouting at the telly because you've just found out Nan is cleverer than you. What more do you want from a Saturday night?' asks Lee, who is delighted that millions of us play along at home.

'People tell me, “The 1% Club is great family viewing, but we don't watch it together.” So they're in different houses, but texting each other!'

And The 1% Club isn't the only show of Lee's that has proved popular with viewers. So, here, we celebrate seven magnificent career highlights to date...

It has already enjoyed 13 series, 100 episodes and cemented Lee as a household name, but Not Going Out – the BBC1 sitcom that he writes and stars in – 'came about by accident,' he says.
