Landing the lottery jackpot is the stuff of dreams for many, but for the long-married pensioners at the heart of new one-off drama Big Winners, it could spell the end of their relationship.

The latest instalment in 5’s Play for Today anthology sees Sue Johnston play Edith Thistle, who, with husband Arthur (Paul Copley), wins £14 million. Arthur cannot wait to celebrate, but for Edith, the windfall makes her realise she needs more from life. And when she also wistfully watches single mum Jade (Alexa Davies) and her daughter bravely embracing a fresh start as they move in across the street, it inspires her to tell Arthur she wants a divorce.
