Remembering Selena 30 Years After Her Death: ‘The Beautiful Things She Left Behind’

1. "She was the star," Abraham Quintanilla Jr.

says of his daughter (as a young girl) in the film.

2. "I would love to take all the credit for the success, but I think it's the work of a team," Selena (with her dad and siblings ca. 1977) said in an interview.

3. Selena (performing with her band in the early '90s) often designed the outfits the band wore onstage.

4. Selena won her first Grammy in 1994. The following year she received a best Mexican American album nomination for Amor Prohibido.

“I had a dream the other night,” says Chris Pérez, husband of the late, beloved singer-songwriter Selena Quintanilla, during an interview with People. “It was Selena, her sister Suzette and me, and we were in a backstage dressing room.

imageThey were in one corner of the room laughing so hard—the way only the two of them could—and it was almost like nothing had happened. I wanted her to talk to me, but I didn’t dream long enough for her to come back over here.” For Pérez, 56, the recurring dream is a welcome escape and a bittersweet reminder of the reality that Selena, who was shot and killed in Corpus Christi, Texas, on March 31, 1995, at age 23, has now been gone for 30 years.

imageSimply Unforgettable "There are a lot of talented people out there, but she just had something special," says Chris Pérez of his wife, Selena. Inset: Selena's brother A.B. Quintanilla III; her parents, Marcella and Abraham Quintanilla; and sister Suzette Quintanilla in 2019.

‘I can’t think of a time—before, after or during the holidays—when these cookies wouldn’t be a treat,’ says the chef and author of Dorie’s Anytime Cakes. ‘They have the texture of a great sponge cake, are richly buttery and taste unabashedly of vanilla. They only bake for a few minutes, but while they’re in the oven, they fill the kitchen with the most intoxicating fragrance’
