On Aug. 15, 1944, a prop plane carrying comedian Bob Hope and his troupe of entertainers crash landed 276 miles north of Sydney, Australia. “We had to throw a lot of our personal gear overboard to lighten the plane,” Bob told the local Courier-Mail. “Our plane landed in the river. The people from the town came out in boats to meet us...we are putting on a show for them.”
