A PATH FORWARD
IF YOU REMEMBER ONE THING from this column, remember this: Being out of harmony with your soul or with the demands of your spiritual nature is like having a rock in your shoe. It is going to bug you until you fix the situation. If you remember two things from this column, add this: Your soul is not about happiness. The rock in your shoe is not unhappiness. What our soul or spirit wants is to be fully present, innocent, and vulnerable to the vibrancy of life—to show up fully to life, whatever it brings.

ANDREW HARVEY ON BECOMING THE LIGHT DURING THE DARK NIGHT
For four decades, Indian-born British scholar and mystic ANDREW HARVEY has been preparing for this moment in history. He's written more than 30 books on topics including spiritual masters such as Jesus and Krishna, Rumi, yoga, Buddhism, and recently Mary Magdalene (the subject of his forthcoming book, The Magdalene Revolution: The Return of the Sacred Feminine and the Birth of Radical Equality).

THE SMALL THINGS WE CARRY
I CAN’T REMEMBER HOW LONG I have been carrying protein bars or other snacks in my glove compartment. I do this so that when I come to a stoplight where a person is sitting with a cardboard sign in hand, sun in their eyes and shoes worn thin, I can easily pop open my glove box and offer what I have. It doesn't happen too often, yet it did the other day. I realized the position I was in and what I had stashed away. It's my chance to look someone in the eyes who likely is not used to having their humanity affirmed. For the length of a breath, we are just two people in the same world. Rarely are words exchanged, but the hands say enough. I know it's not a lot, and it is what I have.

BORN FOR THIS: A COSMIC ADVENT
through a cosmic lens—one that sees the Christ not only born in Bethlehem but also awakening within each of us. From manger to ministry, the life of Jesus is a spiritual blueprint for our own journey. While the term or concept of Advent is not found in the Bible, it is a season of anticipation that draws powerful gifts for us from the Christmas story. This is the season of sacred becoming—an invitation to prepare space within ourselves for the birthing of divine light. The traditional Advent themes of hope, peace, love, and joy are living energies that nourish the soul and lead us to and through unexpected places.

A CHRISTMAS GIFT TO EARTH

MONEY & THE SPIRITUAL JOURNEY
LATELY, MANY OF MY PATIENTS have been talking about their struggles with money. One told me, “My sister and I have been estranged since fighting over Mom's estate.” An affable and deeply spiritual man admitted, “I wake up in the middle of the night obsessed with worry about my business.” A woman confided that her trust was shattered when she discovered her husband had concealed $50,000 in credit card debt. A father of several young children shared, “I just keep pouring money into the family bucket, and everyone else keeps punching holes in it.” A recently retired patient confessed, “I want to focus now on making a life, but I feel like a nobody since I stopped making a living.”

MUCH ADO ABOUT MIRACLES
Q: I’m reading Paramahansa Yogananda’s Autobiography of a Yogi, a must-read for spiritual seekers. Yet he seems quite gullible about his gurus’ miracles. On the other hand, I never question Christ's miracles in the gospels. Am I just biased?
