October 2025

Many suspect that I am a humble man.

THE ORIGINAL G: G-Class ONLY

I am not sure if I really give off that vibe, or if it is just a low-key polite comment. Whatever the case may be, I just wanted to clarify that it is not true. Perhaps some get confused, not realising that the humble man they see is actually one who is humbled repeatedly, on a regular basis.. This is thanks to over twenty years of driving and riding, reviewing cars and motorcycles both on and off the roads. My pride keeps being shattered periodically, and keeps getting up, as suggested by Mr Balboa for more. How and why? I'll get back to it. But this drive in Graz didn't seem to be one of those events.

The drive to Graz started in Munich, right after the IAA 2025. Since we couldn't get the latest GLC based on EQ Tech, we had to settle for the existing GLs. An early morning drive through the narrow roads of Werksviertel-Mitte district, which turned into a six-lane autobahn sooner than I expected. My eyes scanned for the familiar white circle with diagonal black lines, think of a T20 cricket ball with black seams. And, soon, I could see that sign on my screen, and I grinned. Speed restriction ends, and the autobahn formally welcomes me! I gradually blended with the traffic, matching the rhythm. I always give myself some extra time to settle, less for the changed point of view from the left side of the car, and more to trust the drivers that they won't change lanes randomly. We wanted to spend as much time as possible on the autobahn, but the team at the Mercedes HQ had some other plans, and we ended up with a route with a combination of autobahn and roads crossing towns and villages. To conclude, we drove through some fantastic winding roads with Bollywood-like backdrops, and the drive ended up at a location apt for a Mission Impossible set- the G-Class Experience Centre in Graz, Austria.
