Stephen Delaney of Geoffrey Butler Cycles talks us through the issues he encounters when serving women customers.

CW: Why do women come to the shop?

GB I think a lot of women want to come into a store at first, at least when they start out, because they want to see the bike. Some will still just go online and get the best deal — obviously there’s the usual cross-section. I know bike shops aren’t always easy, for men as well as for women, but we’re laid-back and don’t make anyone feel uncomfortable. I’ve got a good group of regular women customers between an age range of 20-somethings through to the sixties.

CW: Is the bike-buying process different for women?
