Bills unite as team, preach love, unity
On the heels of President Trump’s incendiary remarks about NFL players who kneel during the national anthem, Bills linebacker Lorenzo Alexander sensed the anger and offense taken to the president’s comments. There were players who wanted to respond with a demonstration the following day during the national anthem. The veteran remembered head coach Sean McDermott’s comments from the preseason when Cam Jefferson raised his fist during the preseason game at Philadelphia.
After a team meeting back in August it was clear that players could express themselves. Buffalo’s head coach just wanted to be kept informed of such plans.
“He said, ‘I support you guys and I want you to do it, but if you have an issue just come to me first,’” recalled Alexander.
So remembering those words, Alexander was the catalyst in organizing a Saturday evening meeting between ownership, the front office, coaches and players at One Bills Drive leading up to the team’s Week 3 game against the Denver Broncos.
“I just wanted to make sure everybody was on the same page,” Alexander said. “That nobody was caught off guard. I have a lot of respect for what Sean and the Pegulas are trying to do here. I just wanted to get it out in the open to make sure we had an open dialogue so it didn’t become a distraction and take away from the game.

ALLEN GETS HISTORIC DEAL
Bills QB now under contract through 2028
Right back in the swing of things
It’s fair to say that this year’s Bills training camp looks wildly different from those of the past.
TIGHT ENDS: TOP AVAILABLE FREE AGENTS
Hunter Henry, Chargers 6-5 • 250 pounds • 29 years old A very talented player, Henry has had issues staying healthy, unable to complete an NFL season, including missing the entire 2018 season with a torn ACL. But when healthy, he’s a terrific all-around tight end who really connected with Justin Herbert in 2020 with 60 catches. Henry is very good at finding holes in zone coverage.
DEFENSIVE LINEMEN: TOP AVAILABLE FREE AGENTS
Leonard Williams, Giants 6-5 • 255 pounds • 28 years old An athletic 300-pounder with quick feet, Williams amassed a career-high 11.5 sacks last season. Add that to him being a stout run defender, very durable and possessing great character, and he should be in high demand. He won NFC Defensive Player of the Week twice last year. $$$$$
GUARDS/CENTERS: TOP AVAILABLE FREE AGENTS
Brandon Scherff, Washington 6-5 • 315 pounds • 29 years old The fifth pick of the 2015 draft, Scherff certainly lived up to the hype. He’s got everything teams want in a guard — size, grit, great technique, power and the mobility to get to the second level. His massive hands (11 inches) are a huge asset for a guard to grab and clutch. He made the Pro Bowl four of his first five NFL seasons. $$$$$
Another unusual offseason awaits
In a normal year, with a normal offseason, now would be the perfect time to give Josh Allen the monster contract extension he so clearly deserves.
Wild-card playoff: Buffalo 27, Indianapolis 24
Stefon Diggs and the rest of the passing game ultimately came through in the end
