Mcdermott: White, Holmes Impress

Mcdermott: White, Holmes Impress

Q: A couple questions on the camp schedule. First thing, it’s shorter than we are used to seeing here. It’s a full week shorter ...

SM: First and foremost, we are excited to go to Rochester. I’m a big believer in camp in and of itself, because of what we try and get out of camp. Objectively, that’s coming together as a football team, building the toughness of the football team. Those are all of our objectives. I’m excited to go to St. John Fisher College in the Rochester area. We’ve got a lot of fans out there and I can’t wait for them to come out and watch us practice. We’re going to go through our process and earn the right to win and the length of camp. We are always going to do what we feel is best for our football team and this organization. In this case, we felt the timing was right at that point, to get back.

Q: Are there any long-term concerns with Cordy Glenn?

SM: Not at this point. We expect, anticipate him, to be ready for training camp.

Q: Q: You talked about Andre (Holmes) before. There’s a sense that he kind of got lost in that receiver core in Oakland. Do you think we are maybe seeing a glimpse of what he is capable of while being behind two very good players?

SM: Well, we do. When you look at the target in the free agency time period there, we identified players that we felt fit what we were looking for and our DNA. The body of work that he has exhibited since coming into the Bills organization has been exactly what we thought, if not more. The intangibles, the DNA again. He’s built like we want them to be built in terms of the insides and he’s a servant. He leads, he plays special teams, he puts the team first and those are the qualities we look for in our players.

1st & Ten with STEFON DIGGS

Stefon Diggs had one of the best seasons ever by a Bills receiver in 2020, and he’s looking for an encore. Diggs was clearly amped up and ready to go as the Bills began their preparations for the new season, leading the huddle and supporting his teammates as they kicked off training camp in Orchard Park. Diggs recently touched on his goals for the upcoming season for both himself and the team in an informative discussion with members of the media. Here are the highlights from that discussion.

QUARTERBACKS: TOP AVAILABLE FREE AGENTS

Dak Prescott, Cowboys 6-2 • 235 pounds • 27 years old A solid starter who has a nice TD-INT ratio over his first five seasons (104-40), Prescott is an accurate thrower and very mobile. However, he’s coming off a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle, so it remains to be seen if this will impact his game moving forward.

TIGHT ENDS: TOP AVAILABLE FREE AGENTS

Hunter Henry, Chargers 6-5 • 250 pounds • 29 years old A very talented player, Henry has had issues staying healthy, unable to complete an NFL season, including missing the entire 2018 season with a torn ACL. But when healthy, he’s a terrific all-around tight end who really connected with Justin Herbert in 2020 with 60 catches. Henry is very good at finding holes in zone coverage.
