“I’m a curIous person, I want to learn, I’m a happy consumer but I also want to know about the back end of It.”

Reino Ramaputra Barack, 32, got his first exposure to the restaurant business during childhood, when he often joined his father, Rosano Barack, in visits to various restaurants including ones in the Grand Hyatt (where Husano is an owner). He recalls that his father could be exacting about the food, and when something was not right he would ask for improvements. “He likes something special and extraordinary, so his attention to details influenced me,” Reino says.

Reino is well known for being a creator of the hit children TV series, Bima Satria Garuda, and also for being in charge of MNC’s digital business division. Currently Reino by himself has invested in seven successful high-end food and beverage outlets in Jakarta. According to him, his investments started from a personal interest: “I’m a curious person, I want to learn, I’m a happy consumer but I also want to know about the back end of it.”

His first investment was big, in the Altitude, located on the 46th floor of the Plaza, one of Jakarta’s most prestigious office towers. The venue opened three years ago and has been an instant success. It spans over 1,000 sqm, and consists of three restaurants that include the Salt Grill started by one of Australia’s top celebrity chefs Luke Mangan. Reino wasn’t involved in the project from scratch, as one of the shareholders approached him to join the project when they needed funds. “At first, I hesitated because the project was quite big, but I didn’t delay long because I loved the location,” Reino says.
