All about THE FLORA

“It was important that the colours weren’t high-contrast... we wanted all textures and tones to be gentle on the eye and have a cooling effect” - Nicola Cameron

Maroubra, a beachside suburb in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, is known for its hot, dry and windy climate. This typically Australian weather is usually quite hard to escape but Pepo Botanic Design has brought together soft tones and textures, leafy foliage, and a carefully executed, “random” planting design to create a “relaxed and natural” garden oasis.

With a newly renovated home, this family desired an outside area to match. As well as spaces for play, entertaining guests and an edible garden, they wanted a planting palette that provided a welcoming habitat for native flora and fauna. The existing land was mostly lawn with simple finishes, disjointed design, and a steep descent between the house and pool area. The challenge for the team at Pepo would be to create a tranquil refuge amid a hot and dry environment and to make a peaceful journey between the home and the pool.
