A Roman Hoard And Lead Coffin
Treasure Hunting magazine
|May 2018
A round 260 Roman coins and a Roman grave containing a rare lead-lined coffin have been discovered in a field near Ilminster.

The find was declared by Kevin Minto, a member of the Detecting for Veterans Somerset group. Kevin was one of the team of detectorists working on the fields when he found a button, then a piece of lead, before going on to discover the hoard.
Kevin recalls, “I hit two Roman coins, then one to the left, another to the right and then eighteen more. Within twenty minutes we had recovered over fifty coins.”

Lost and Found?
There have been several instances over my long detecting career where, not only has it has been a delight to be able to help people who have lost things, but also a great thrill when such losses are returned to their owners. I have several memories of such occurrences.
