The Kandivali skywalk in Mumbai has turned into a make-shift classroom with teacher Haimanti Sen imparting various skills to underprivileged children. Nikshubha Garg finds out why it’s special

It was a regular sunny morning in May 2018 when Haimanti Sen, 22, a teacher by profession, found Newbaba, Rose, Sallu, and Ushika, among others, begging near Kandivali station in Mumbai. She battled a strange turmoil the moment the thought of these children’s future hit her, and, on the day, she accompanied them back home. “Did they understand the importance of education or the fact that the Right to Education Act exists?” Sen wondered as she headed to their homes—empty plots near the railway tracks.
