VW's $84 Billion Roadmap E For An Electric Future

ON THE EVE OF THE International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt Germany, the Volkswagen Group announced a massive $84 billion plan that will move the group decisively towards an electric future. The Wolfsburg-based group had announced an initial investment earlier this year but at $10 billion, it wasn’t even comparable to what it was investing in petrol and diesel cars.

Now, however, the new investment under the ‘Roadmap E’ strategy envisions the arrival of 300 or so electric vehicles to market by 2030. This will entail an electrified version of each VW Group model from all its brands, making it the first large manufacturer to announce the electrification of its entire fleet. But before this, the group also plans to bring 80 new electrified models to the street by 2025. Of these, around 50 will be all-electric and 30 plug-in hybrids. Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Bugatti, Bentley, Lamborghini, Skoda and Seat are the group’s passenger car brands.
