The 17th Conference of Parties (Cop17) of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (Cites) was recently held in Sandton, South Africa. During this event, delegations from all over the world gathered to discuss issues around the trade in wildlife. Ironically, parties decided on the future of certain species that they do not even have in their own countries, specifically lion, elephant and rhinoceros. A picture did the rounds on social media depicting an African tribe, gathered in a circle in front of some straw huts.
