The sixth European stage of the Extreme Sailing Series sponsored by Land Rover will take place on the Neva (near the Vasilievsky Island Point) from 20 to 23 August. The competitions will take the form of the “stadium races” held in major coastal cities: short but dynamic and spectacular events that give spectators the best possible view. The Extreme 40 class catamarans combine visual aesthetics with racing efficiency: with a wind of 25 knots these catamarans can reach speeds of up to 40 knots (equivalent to approximately 70 kmph). The races are often called the “Formula 1” of the sailing world on account of the speed and the spectacle. Russia will be represented by the St. Petersburg Yacht Club, led by two-time Olympic champion Igor Lisovenko.
