This December/January edition of Essential Algarve is of course full of Christmas cheer, from tips from our wine
writers on great Portuguese magnums and rosé sparkling wines to seasonal hampers from the Algarve\'s purveyors of fine
foods. But there\'s no bigger celebration than the Big Day, and with more and more lovebirds choosing the Algarve as the
place to tie the knot, we chose this issue to publish our first annual feature on Algarve wedding planning for 2014.
Another great celebration took place here in the Algarve in November with the 8th International Gourmet Festival at Vila
Joya, with off-site events at the Conrad Algarve amongst other venues. The biggest and best festival yet, this year saw
leading chefs from as far away as Brazil and Thailand join some of Europe\'s Michelin stars, amongst them Joan Roca,
chef of the world\'s number 1 restaurant El Celler de Can Roca in Girona, Spain. See our special report starting on page 66.
