Comprising 40 per cent of the global agricultural workforce—and as much as 50 per cent in many regions—women are essential to planting, cultivating, and harvesting, as well as processing, logistics, and sales. 2026 as the International Year of the Woman Farmer will drive policies pertaining to land tenure, finance, and technology access via awareness and collaborations. In India, this aligns with Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) targets (10,000 by 2027-28, prioritising women-led) and Southern states like Telangana, which leads in the country with 359 women-led FPOs, are offering models for replication.
