Stop mindless overeating
TAKE 20 Take your time and pause between bites. 'It takes approximately 20 minutes for your brain to register fullness,' says neuroscientist Dr Ramon Velazquez*.
CREATE AN EATING SPACE
Having a dedicated eating space trains your brain to switch into a more mindful state when you sit down there,' says Dr Velazquez. 'Never eat at your desk, in front of the TV or by the fridge. These encourage autopilot eating.'
ENGAGE YOUR SENSES Before eating, observe the colours, smells and textures of your food. Try to identify specific flavours and how they change. Engaging in the eating experience makes you less likely to mindlessly overeat.
