To Love a SCARECROW

A hopeless romantic, Chloe believed every story should have a happy ever after
-┬а

Sorry, love, just making space for Prince Albert!тАЩ The deep voice bellowed over the hedge, causing Chloe to jump. Then a familiar, grey-bearded face appeared.
тАШOh, hello Mr Parsons тАФ so IтАЩm guessing you have chosen to do the royal couple. I didnтАЩt take you for the romantic type.тАЩ
тАШI'm not! To be honest, Chloe, it wouldnтАЩt have been my choice for the scarecrow festival.
It was Mary's idea, sheтАЩs inside working on Queen Victoria's dress as we speak тАФ she has bits of material everywhere.тАЩ
Chloe laughed. тАШWell, I think they will both look splendid.тАЩ
It was a great honour for Chloe to be chosen as the organiser of her villageтАЩs yearly charity event.
тАШI presume you're doing a modern couple,тАЩ Mr Parsons grinned, raising his bushy eyebrows.
Chloe smiled. тАШNot modern exactly, but with a modern twist - it will be a surprise.тАЩ She wasnтАЩt going to give anything away and, if she was honest, she wasn't exactly sure if her idea even fitted the theme she had chosen тАФ тАШiconic romantic couples throughout historyтАЩ.
тАШWell, it will definitely be a challenge to produce not one but two scarecrows,тАЩ Mr Parsons sighed. тАШI donтАЩt know, young people today and your big ideas!тАЩ

On Saturday morning, Chloe arrived early at the venue for the scarecrow festival to put the finishing touches to her creations.
тАШHello there!тАЩ a voice called.
Chloe spun around. A young, attractive, dark-haired man stood before her. тАШCan I help you?тАЩ she asked.
тАШI'm here for the festival,тАЩ he replied.
тАШItтАЩs not open to the public for another hour yet.тАЩ
тАШThen itтАЩs good that I am not a member of the public тАФ I'm from the paper. Stephen Wright at your service - reporter, writer and photographer.тАЩ He smiled and proudly held up his ID badge.
тАШChloe Henderson - school librarian.тАЩ
