SLEEP AWAKE

An experimental, mind-bending night terror

Exhausted, filthy and delirious, we crawl into a collapsing wooden shack, its interior dimly lit by a single faltering gas lamp. On the ground we find a pillow, covered in fresh blood, with rusty nails sticking out of the fabric. This dwelling is owned by one of the Pain Eaters, who pierce themselves with knives and lie on beds of broken glass. In our own reality, you would take the Pain Eaters for masochists or religious flagellates. But in the twisted, fading world of Sleep Awake, they’re just trying to stay alive – here in the Crush, the last remaining human city, if you ever give in to your body and fall asleep, you die.
