WHAT on earth is going to happen in Ukraine? I can’t see either side budging on territorial matters.

I suspect Zelensky won't be able to give up the eastern sector - too much Ukrainian blood has already been spilled there. And while Putin presumably isn’t overly concerned about blood being spilled, he can’t withdraw from what Russia has occupied without a huge loss of face - and we know dictators don’t much enjoy that. It’s already bad enough that he’s lost tens of thousands of his men... without crushingly defeating his neighbour.

It follows then that Trump's grandstanding claims he'd bring peace won't fly... so he’ll blame Zelensky. A cynic might well guess he’s deliberately loaded the terms of the proRussian ‘negotiation starting point’, then threatened to push for quick conclusion, essentially setting them up to fail. Then he'd be able to walk away.
