Community in battle to save school

A PETITION has been submitted to save a threatened village school in Pembrokeshire.

During the latest meeting of Pembrokeshire Council, a request for a pause before making any decisions on the potential closure of Stepaside school, Kilgetty, was rejected.

This is part of a broader range of proposed educational changes in the southern part of the county.

At this meeting, members were asked to authorise the education director to conduct a public consultation on the establishment of a new 3-19 school.

Initially, this would be split across two sites but could eventually be consolidated at an expanded or rebuilt Ysgol Greenhill site in Tenby, or potentially a new location. This proposal received support.

As part of these recommendations, it was also suggested that Tenby Church in Wales Voluntary Controlled School and Ysgol Greenhill should be discontinued.

Another recommendation was to establish a new 3-11 primary school on the Saundersfoot School site, leading to the discontinuation of both Saundersfoot School and Stepaside school.
