Chief to retire for one day to keep pension

THE Chief Constable of North Wales Police has been granted permission to retire for a single day in order to safeguard her pension.
North Wales Police Chief Constable Amanda Blakeman had sought the approval of Police and Crime Commissioner Andy Dunbobbin to partake in the national “retire and rehire” scheme.Dunbobbin subsequently requested the backing of the North Wales Police and Crime Panel to sanction the move. The scheme is touted as a means for the police force to “retain skills, knowledge and experience of police officers at all levels”.
By agreeing to the scheme, Blakeman can officially retire from her role, only to be reinstated the following day at the same rank in her £170K-a-year position.
This brief interruption in service ensures that “pension entitlement can be abated without any impact on entitlement to lump sum or monthly payments”.
