Busy start to the year for rescue teams

A WOMAN had to be rescued after falling from a cliff at a Welsh beauty spot on what turned out to be a busy first day of 2026 for mountain rescue teams.

The incident happened in the Four Waterfalls area just northwest of Penderyn in the Bannau Brycheiniog on New Year's Day.

Police were notified that a woman had fallen off a cliff within the national park, and emergency teams including paramedics, fire crews, mountain rescue personnel and an air ambulance were all sent to the scene.

The woman sustained “serious injuries” to her arms, ribs, pelvis and legs.
