Flynn sees 'smashing' Thomas stepping up

IN their penultimate game of the season - and their final home fixture, Cheltenham Town finally converted a League Two penalty.
George Miller had one saved in the draw against Grimsby and Ryan Haynes crashed his effort against the bar in the win at Crewe, but Jordan Thomas made no mistake from the spot on this occasion.
In what is likely to have been his final Whaddon Road appearance for the club, the winger was adjudged to have been tripped by Carlisle United goalkeeper Gabe Breeze in the 31st minute of Saturday's contest.
He sent Breeze the wrong way from 12 yards to register the ninth goal of his first full EFL campaign and his third in four matches, with a host of scouts watching on from the old main stand at Whaddon Road.
Robins boss Michael Flynn, who admitted that it did not look like a penalty after analysing replays, had appointed Thomas as the spot-kick taker after a recent discussion.
“Jordan came into my office a couple of weeks back and put his hand up to take them,’ Flynn said.
“He doesn’t say much and I wound him up, saying I fancied him to score them because there isn’t much between his ears, so he won't think about it too much!
“It was all taken in the right way, of course, and we had a good laugh about it, but it was a smashing penalty. I am pleased for Jordan because he was absolutely superb”
