CHRIS PRATT AND REBECCA FERGUSON CHAT WITH LYNN RUSK ABOUT AI SURVEILLANCE AND THE JUSTICE SYSTEM IN NEW SCI-FI THRILLER MERCY

This isn't a think piece on artificial intelligence... it's a thrilling, gripping ride

NO AI IN TEAM: Chris Pratt says it was fantastic working with Rebecca Ferguson

ARTIFICIAL Intelligence (AI) is increasingly permeating every aspect of our lives. While it serves as a powerful tool, its shortcomings can sometimes have dangerous consequences.

New action thriller Mercy, starring Guardians of the Galaxy's Chris Pratt, explores the use of AI in the justice system and highlights its limitations in uncovering the truth.

Set in a dystopian near future, Chris plays a detective who has just 90 minutes to prove his innocence to an advanced Al judge, portrayed by Rebecca Ferguson, following his wife’s alleged murder.

Strapped in to a chair, the defendant has access to every piece of camera footage on the web to build his case and convince the judge of his innocence.

Yet all that private and public surveillance footage could just as easily push him closer to a guilty verdict.

Chris, 46, who is best known for the TV comedy Parks and Recreation and appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, says he was drawn to the role because of its relevance to today’s world.

“The story is absolutely fantastic, unlike anything I've ever read before,” says the star, who hails from Virginia, Minnesota. “It feels cutting-edge and incredibly topical, given the state of the world.

“The movie plays exactly like the script reads: from the very first minute, it doesn’t let you go. It’s a true page-turner, and that’s exactly what drew me to this story, it’s simply fantastic.
