Killer who fled to city after stabbing jailed for 24 years

A TEENAGER who fled to Stoke-on-Trent after fatally stabbing a dad-of-seven has been handed a life sentence.

Corey Gauci, 19, had denied killing Colin Richards but he stood trial along with five others.

Gauci had knifed Mr Richards, 48, in his right thigh severing his femoral artery and vein after 11pm on April 7 last year. He - along with accomplice James O'Driscoll - then dumped the clothes they had been wearing in a bag and left Cardiff. They were arrested three weeks later in Stoke-on-Trent.

The court heard Gauci had become involved in an argument between former couple Noreen O'Driscoll and Christian Morgan which saw two groups travelling to an area of Ely in Cardiff, some armed with knives.

Gauci was found guilty of murder last month and Mr Justice Griffiths sentenced him to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 24 years at Cardiff Crown Court.
