Woman kicked, punched and hit with pole in brutal attack

Partner, 39, was drunk and drugged-up

DRUNKEN Adam Lee punched his partner and attacked her with a pole in an 'appalling' town centre assault.

The 39-year-old had been drinking and taking monkey dust when 'he lost his cool' in Newcastle.

Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard the victim was injured but did not make a formal complaint. Officers seized a Samurai sword from the defendant’s home when they went to arrest him. Now Lee has been sentenced to 19 months in prison, suspended for 18 months.

Prosecutor David Bennett said a woman and her friend were in Newcastle town centre at 9.45pm on July 8 when they left a pub and walked along Ironmarket. Their attention was drawn to the defendant and his partner who were vocal and appeared to be engaged in confrontation.
