QC Flags DPWH Flood Control Projects

|August 18, 2025
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has implemented several flood control projects in Quezon City even without approval and proper coordination with the local government.
In an interview with The STAR yesterday, Mayor Joy Belmonte said they are compiling a list of all flood control projects that the national government had implemented in the city.
"The engineers are checking with the barangays all flood control projects that were not coordinated (with the city government),"" Belmonte said. "After that, we have to study if these projects that they've implemented are appropriate... Did it stop the flooding? Were these effective? We will evaluate the projects."
While it has been a practice of national government agencies to implement projects even without coordination with local government units, Belmonte said the city council passed an ordinance in 2020 requiring coordination for all project planning and implementation to be rolled out in Quezon City.
