'Defer implementation of criminal laws'
The Morning Standard
|June 22, 2024
DAYS after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin wrote to Home Minister Amit Shah on the three new criminal laws, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to defer the implementation of the statutes, scheduled for July 1.
In a letter to Modi, the TMC chief expressed "grave concern" over the impending implementation of the three laws - The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNA) 2023, The Bharatiya Sakshya Act (BSA) 2023, and The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023.
In her letter, Banerjee said the three bills were hurriedly passed in Lok Sabha when 146 MPs were suspended.
