United ‘should go back in for Palace star’

NEWCASTLE United's search for a new centre-half shows no signs of being settled anytime soon.

The Magpies are keen to add a top drawer defender to their ranks as Eddie Howe looks to strengthen in a key area ahead of an assault on the Premier League and Champions League this season.

Ousmane Dembele, Malick Thiaw and Marc Guehi are among the centre-backs watched, while Newcastle have also enquired about Atalanta youngster Giorgio Scalvini.

Former Newcastle and England winger Chris Waddle, however, believes they should return to Guehi. United had three bids for the Crystal Palace skipper turned down last summer, but with the England star entering the final year of his contract, Palace could decide to cash in on him.
