As someone who tries to be as positive as possible about the political process, a thing that drives me mad is the way that politicians hold their opponents to a higher standard than their own colleagues.

This week I saw a Conservative MP react to news of ministerial breaches by former Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner, Chancellor Rachel Reeves and Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy with gleeful outrage. "This Labour government is riddled with scandal," he said.
It's not the worst point ever, and that is a pretty bad run of incidents in the space of a few weeks. But I did also think: "Your Prime Minister and his Chancellor broke the law, your party chairman had to resign over tax issues, the Home Secretary got done for bullying staff and your deputy chief whip was a sex pest."

HEALTHY START
January is the right time for a reset. Nothing extreme, just food to help you feel good. Think fresh flavours, colourful plates and meals as nourishing as they are comforting. Soothing soups, vibrant salads and a spicy curry are on my menu plus, of course, the odd selection box chocolate which needs eating up!
