Elderly man dies in crash involving three vehicles

A MAN died following a three-vehicle collision involving a car, a van and an HGV. Emergency services were called to the A66 near Bowes, County Durham, shortly after 10.30am on Tuesday.

Police, paramedics and the air ambulance service attended the scene. But despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the driver of the car, an 86-year-old man, died at the scene, Durham Constabulary confirmed. His family have been notified and are being supported by specialist officers.
