Ferry slipway will be out of action 'until February'

THE slipway at Plymouth's Admiral's Hard will be out of action for months and has already cost more than £170,000 to repair.

This is on top of the £550,000 it cost to fix the slipway on the other side of the River Tamar at Mount Edgcumbe.

Plymouth City Council said maintenance work to the slipway at Admiral's Hard is underway but tide levels mean it is now expected to finish in February 2026.

Cremyll Ferry passengers bound for Mount Edgcumbe should continue to take the boat from Royal William Yard for the time being.

A council spokesperson said the problem is that the slip was constructed with thin steel sheet piling which was kept in place at the top by steel straps.

Because of the slip's location, these have corroded and failed over time which has caused the sheet piles to be displaced.

So work includes installing new restraint angles to the deck to hold the top of the remainder of the sheet piling in place.
