Amazed by stories of strict Swiss laws

WELL, if you thought the Swiss were being a tad harsh saying that now that some of its production has moved out of Switzerland, Toblerone can no longer feature the distinctive Matterhorn mountain peak on its packaging,... as Max Bygraves said, “I wanna tell you a story”.

Well actually a couple. Two regarding traffic ‘offences’ and one ‘committed’ in the safety of someone’s own home.

I know the Swiss are pretty strict when it comes to speeding offences. I remember hearing the story about the highest recorded speeding fine ever issued which was to a 37-year-old Swedish man in 2010, when he was fined a total of CHF 1.08 million for driving at 290km on a 120km stretch of motorway. I don’t know what the exchange rate was then but trust me it was a lot.
