Hunger, food and waste

While we appreciate the long-term plans of Cebu’s elected officials especially related to food sufficiency, better education and health care, services and delivery, we wonder whether they can be persuaded to immediately, urgently prioritize food now for the thousands/millions of their hungry constituents?

- Cherry Piquero-Ballescas cballescas@yahoo.com

As of May, 2025, survey results showed that 3 out of 10 Filipinos faced involuntary hunger — these Filipinos experienced hunger and had nothing to eat.

Among the hungry were those in Cebu Province and cities included among the more than 10% whose per capita income were insufficient for their basic food and nonfood needs in the First Semester of 2023.

With escalating inflation, rising prices, unemployment and insufficient income, without a doubt, there are more than 10% experiencing hunger among Cebu’s constituents.

The infants, children, students, seniors, PWDs among the hungry have to go a day or more without anything to eat.

Can the elected officials recognize these faces of hungry individuals and families before them and prioritize feeding programs, now, immediately, urgently?

Less budget will be needed for health if these hungry people’s need for food can be immediately responded to.

Governor Pam and other Metro Cebu elected officials, please start “food mobile caravans” to reach the hungry where they are, SANAALL, SANA NOW, SANAIMMEDIATELY?
