Pravara institute suspends HoD, enquiry ordered into claims of exploitation and unsafe work culture
The Pravara Institute of Medical Sciences (deemed university) near Pune has been rocked by the death of Dr Vinod Kumar Goud, a 27year-old postgraduate student in paediatrics from Telangana, who was found dead in his hostel room on Sep 27.
Junior doctors alleged that the tragedy reflects systemic harassment within the department. In a statement, they accused the Head of Department (HoD) of creating an atmosphere of fear and exploitation, citing endless duties stretching beyond 40 hours, verbal abuse and demands for costly gifts such as sarees and mobile phones.
