ROUNDABOUT FLAGS 'ARE TOO DANGEROUS'

ENGLAND and Union Flags on a busy Birmingham roundabout are dangerous, an MP has claimed.

Kingstanding Circle has been covered on St George crosses but some claim they are impeding drivers’ vision.

On Friday they were removed - but only temporarily. It was claimed they were just taken down to be washed or repaired.

The majority of locals welcomed the flags saying they felt pride - but some concerns have been raised about safety and the stability of the flags staked into the ground at the busy junction as high winds from Storm Amy began to sweep the city.

But Paulette Hamilton (Lab), MP for Birmingham Erdington, said the roundabout was not safe for drivers

She said: “I completely understand and share the pride my constituents feel in flying our flag, it is a powerful symbol of identity and community.

“But pride must never come at the expense of safety.

“When flags are placed on key road infrastructure like the Kingstanding Circle roundabout, public safety has to always be the number one priority.
