FEARLESS TEAM MOVE IN TO CLEAN UP CRIME IN BRUM CITY CENTRE

A NEW city centre police team has been rolled out to crack down on criminals travelling in to cause misery in Birmingham.

Operation Fearless launched in Erdington in January, where crime was costing the taxpayer an estimated £7 million.

Now attention has turned to Birmingham’s Southside district - and 20 uniformed and plain-clothes officers have been tasked with cracking down on drug dealing, money laundering, violence and theft.

Officers said they plan to stay as long as they’re needed in the city centre.

The Sunday Mercury joined unit boss Detective Superintendent Jim Munro and were confronted with a difficult sight in minutes.

We began our patrol outside TK Maxx near the Bullring and made our way down to Smallbrook Queensway and immediately came across four men thought to be drug users or homeless, who were virtually passed out on the side of Smallbrook Queensway as cars thundered past.
