Greens to lodge proposals that could see US military pay property tax on Scottish bases

THE US military could be forced to pay property tax in Scotland under new laws proposed by an MSP.

It comes as the Scottish Greens put forward plans in parliament to end tax exemptions for foreign armed forces.

Ross Greer has lodged the proposals as an amendment to the upcoming Housing (Scotland) Bill with America the only country likely to be affected by any change to the law.

Scotland was home to a number of US military bases from the 1960s to the 1990s, including nuclear FAIR The Green ar med Party's Ross Greer submarines at the Holy Loch on the Clyde and sites on the Mull of Kintyre and in Edzell in Aberdeenshire.
