We've got real work to do, says the new Mayor of Greater Lincolnshire

REFORM UK's new mayor of Greater Lincolnshire says "we've got real work to do" and is keen to put the bitter election campaign behind her.

Dame Andrea Jenkyns swept to victory in the Mayoral race earlier this month, with more votes than the Conservative and Labour candidates combined.

However she was dogged by accusations that she didn’t live in the county and wasn’t eligible to be mayor, which she described as a “smear campaign” after they were dismissed.

An appeal on that decision has since been lodged with North Kesteven District Council which the authority says is to be “passed to the County Court in line with statutory process”.

Dame Andrea previously described the complaint as “vexatious” and “politically motivated”.

Two weeks after her election victory, she is extremely busy but more cheerful, settling into her office with the desk flanked by the Union Jack and the four-colour Lincolnshire flag.

As the first Mayor of Greater Lincolnshire, she will have to work with leaders of councils of all parties, including two that she defeated in the race.
