'WE ARE A STEP' CLOSER AS PHASE ONE WORKS COMPLETED

Key milestone reached on major M181 scheme

ENGINEERS and council leaders have hailed the completion of the first phase of the M181 “southern junction” project that takes the area “a step closer to reducing congestion”.

The multi-million-pound scheme, led by North Lincolnshire Council in partnership with National Highways, has seen the construction of a new junction on the M181, known as the “southern junction”.

This will facilitate future development phases and connect the M181 with Burringham Road, Lincolnshire Lakes, and the western areas of Scunthorpe.

North of England contractor, Esh Construction, has delivered the works, using National Highways funding from the Government, in partnership with North Lincolnshire Council.

The latest milestone follows Esh's delivery of the northern junction in 2021 which marked the first upgraded development of the motorway network in North Lincolnshire since it opened in 1978.
