With travel disruption inevitable, ferry company CalMac has already warned that delays and cancellations are likely on west coast routes from Mallaig and Oban.

A Met Office weather warning, upgraded from yellow to amber, suggests Floris could cause injuries and a “danger to life” due to large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.

Some damage to trees and buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, is expected, which could create hazards on the roads and railways.
