Pub staff left sad after date set for enforcement

AN AWARD-WINNING pub at the centre of long-running saga over its tepee says they're “very sad” after a date was set for enforcement action.
The Eagle and Child Inn on Whalley Road in Ramsbottom has confirmed that the structure will be coming down in two months after the council turned down plans to retain it on the issues of the generation of traffic and noise.
The owners had put up the 72-seat tepee during the Covid pandemic to host events such as small weddings.
However, Bury Council denied retrospective planning permission in September 2024 and ordered its removal. Last month, it was reported that following the enforcement action, they were required to remove the structure by May 5.
In a post on a local community Facebook page last Thursday night, the team confirmed when the structure would eventually be coming down,.
They wrote: “Thank you for the memories. We are very sad to be losing our Tipi.
“It comes down on 28th July.
“We have loved sharing your birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, retirements, christenings, baby showers, cake and sip, wreath making and all sorts of other events.
