FATHER has expressed his dis- appointment that a school crossing patrol will not be put in place on a busy road despite his son’s campaigning to get one.

Son loses bid for crossing patrol

Nick Cartwright with his son William

William Cartwright, 11, from Bacup, launched an online petition earlier this year to install a zebra crossing on Burnley Road in Bacup, which gained more than 1,400 signatures.

His campaign also won the support of Rossendale and Darwen MP Andy MacNae who highlighted the former Bacup Thorn Primary School pupil's campaign in Parliament.

Lancashire County Council promised to review whether a school crossing patrol could be introduced to help families cross safely the busy road after they heard William's pleas at the Full Council meeting at County Hall in Preston in July.

His father Nick says he received a letter from Lancashire County Council informing him the county council have decided they will not be placing a crossing in the area.

‘The letter, which has been seen by the Free Press, confirms the county council undertook an assessment on October 7 to determine whether the location is suitable for a school crossing patrol.
