Six per cent rise will come into force in April

Council tax bills and water charges will rise for residents in East Renfrewshire from April.

East Renfrewshire Council passed a budget on Wednesday which included a six per cent council tax increase for 2026/27. The above-inflation (three per cent) rise will "protect vital services", Labour council leader Owen O'Donnell said.

Scottish Water, which is publicly owned, had already agreed to increase prices by 8.7 per cent from April. Council tax bills in Scotland also include water charges.
