Manager has recruitment headache ahead of new term

- TAYLOR MURRAY

The timing of Martin Foyle's departure from St Mirren as head of recruitment has been described as "not ideal".

That was the thought of Stephen Robinson after his close friend in football for nearly ten years moved to National League side Carlisle United in June.

However, the Saints didn’t hang about for his replacement as they brought in ex-Celtic, Rangers and Blackburn Rovers talent spotter John Park to fill the void.

When asked if the timing of losing Foyle was ideal, Robbo said: “No, certainly not.

“I've made no bones about it.

“Martin's a close friend of mine. I've not worked with anybody else other than Martin for nearly ten years now. For what he’s done for this football club, he hasn’t got the credit he's deserved.”

But he added: “John comes with a vast amount of experience and we're building up a relationship.
