Buddies vice-chairman making switch to Ibrox

Gillespie will take up the role replacing Patrick Stewart who departed in November of last year - later this season after serving his notice period with the Buddies.

The move follows more than a year after the 47-year-old rejected the job after being approached by former Light Blues chairman John Bennett.

Gillespie, who is the CEO of Paisley-based charity Kibble, became a director at Saints in 2020 as a representative for the organisation - which holds a significant shareholding in the club - and was appointed as vice-chairman of the Premier Sports Cup winners a year later.

Now, after choosing to switch from Paisley to Govan after resigning from the charity and the Saints board, Gillespie says being appointed as new Gers CEO is an "honour" and he is looking forward to the job.
