New 20mph speed limit will do nothing for pedestrian safety

As a very frequent commuter into the city from north Nottinghamshire, Mansfield Road and I have become all too well acquainted over the years. Driving along it has become a necessary evil, with the only other realistic route being a trek through Newark’s farcical morning traffic.

Public transport is also a no go given the lack of frequent and reliable connections from parts of north Nottinghamshire to the city.

I was therefore as keen as anyone to see a list of proposed improvements to Mansfield Road released by the city council. It is important to say from the off that the improvements are not aimed at bettering the experience of drivers, but primarily at making the route safer for pedestrians.
